How do I add email accounts?

How do I know if my email is working?
After you have configured your email client is recommended to send yourself an email message. If you receive it, you have successfully configured the mail client.
How do I login to Webmail?
You can login in to your Webmail account by following the instructions below:
  • Go to https://mail.megawire.com/mail/
  • In the text box labeled "Username", enter the email address for which you want to check email.
  • In the text box labeled "Password", enter your password.
  • Click on the "Log In" button.

When the page refreshes, you should be logged into your Webmail account and able to check your email.

How do I set up my email in Outlook Express?
You can send and receive emails in Webmail by following the instructions below:

  1. In €œOutlook Express€, under the Tools€ menu, select Accounts€
  2. Under the €œMail€ tab, select Add€ and then Mail€
  3. Enter your name in the Display Name€ field Ex: John Smith
  4. Enter your email address - example: jsmith@megawire.ca
  5. Select POP3 under "€œMy incoming mail server is a ... "€œ option
  6. In both €œIncoming Mail and Outgoing Mail,€ enter mail.megawire.com
  7. Enter your account name. Ex: jsmith@megawire.ca
  8. Enter your password
  9. Make sure the Remember password€ checkbox is selected
  10. Click Next then finish
  11. Highlight the account you created and click Properties€

Walkthrough

  1. Open Mac Mail
  2. Click on "Preferences" from the Mail menu in the top toolbar.
  3. Click on the "Accounts" tab.
  4. Within the "Accounts" tab, click on the plus (+) sign in the bottom left corner to create your new account.
  5. Enter your full name
  6. Enter your email address
  7. Enter your password, click continue
  8. Incoming Server:
    1. From the “Account Type” dropdown, select POP
    2. Enter a description for this email account
    3. For Incoming mail server enter: mail.megawire.com
    4. Under username enter your full email address (example: jsmith@megawire.ca)
    5. Enter your password
  9. Outgoing Mail Server:
    1. Enter a description
    2. Under “outgoing mail server” enter: mail.megawire.com
    3. Mark “use authentication” checkbox
      1. under “user name” enter your full mail address
      2. enter your password
    4. Click continue

  11. For incoming mail server: under “Advanced” tab, uncheck “Use SSL” option

Adding an email account

  1. Go to “Settings” and select “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”
  2. Select “Add New Account”, then “Other”, then “Add Mail Account”
  3. Enter your name, email address and password
  4. Select either “IMAP” or “POP”
  5. In the “Incoming” and “Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Servers”, enter mail.megawire.com in the Hostname, your email address and your password
  6. Your iPhone will verify your settings – if it fails, turn SSL off (this may need to be done twice for incoming and outgoing servers)

 Troubleshooting problems with your email

 Enabling IMAP folders

  1. Go to “Settings”, then “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”, then select your email account
  2. Go to “Advanced”
  3. For the IMAP Path Prefix enter INBOX in all capital letters
  4. To store your “Sent” and “Draft” messages on the server, then select “On the Server” under “Mailbox Behaviors”

Important Note

If our recommended settings do not work, contact your cell provider to see if they need to use custom settings from your carrier.
How do I setup my hosted email in Microsoft Outlook 2007?

  1. In Microsoft Outlook, click on the "Tools" menu at the top and select "Account Settings".
  2. Under "E-mail",
  3. Click on the "New…" button on the top
  4. Check the “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” checkbox on the bottom of the page, click Next
  5. Select “Internet E-mail” option, click next
  6. Enter your name - example: John Smith
  7. Enter your email address - example: jsmith@megawire.ca
  8. Under “Account Type” select "POP3”
  9. Under incoming mail server enter: mail.yourdomain.tld

How do I setup my hosted email on my Blackberry?

Walkthrough

These are general guidelines; the steps could be different for your specific phone model. Contact the manufacturer if you need assistance.

  1. Open “E-Mail Settings” on your Blackberry home screen
  2. Click “Add An Email Account”
  3. Enter your email address (Ex: jsmith@megawire.ca)
  4. Enter your password
  5. Click “Next”
  6. If the information entered was correct, your phone will show a Success message and the configured email account will be added to your BlackBerry home screen.
  7. Click Finish.

On some phone models, there will be a message saying that the wizard is not able to configure the account. Follow these steps to configure them:

  1. When prompted, select “I will provide the settings to add this email account”, click next
  2. Select “Internet Service Provider Email (POP/IMAP)”
  3. Select “Provide the Settings”
  4. Under username enter your full email address (Ex: jsmith@megawire.ca)
  5. Enter your password
  6. Under “email server” enter : mail.megawire.com
  7. Click Ok.
What are the size limitations for our email accounts?
Our system allows email messages up to 20 MB in size including all attachments. All email servers are configured differently and some providers may reject messages of this size.
What is email forwarding and how do I set it up?

This feature allows you to forward a copy of emails received by your current e-mail account to another e-mail address of your choice.

  1. Login at http://www.megawire.ca/
  2. Click on the €œLogin to package€ button (blue computer screen)
  3. Under the €œSections€ menu, select €œEmail€.
  4. Select Show Accounts€
  5. Click on Options€

What is IMAP and when should I use it?

Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) is one of the two protocols used to connect to mail servers. It allows emails to be synchronized across multiple computers, devices and the host server. IMAP works with the server to update your email in real-time. IMAP also uses folders to organize messages.

You will need to setup your clients to use IMAP when you use more devices linked to the same mailbox.

Setting an email client to use IMAP is similar to POP, you just select IMAP instead of POP and change the port number to be 143.

What is spam filtering?

The spam filter function allows you to prevent unsolicited email (spam) from reaching your mailbox. By enabling spam filtering on an account, every email which enters your inbox is evaluated and assigned a point value by an automated filter, based on the subject, message headers and content. If the point total is over a certain value, the email is categorized as spam.

You can enable spam filtering by following these steps:

  4. Select €œShow Accounts
  5. Click on Options€

Why am I having problems sending email when I have no problems receiving email?

Please ensure your outgoing (SMTP) server is set to mail.yourdomain.tld. Our outgoing mail server requires authentication, so use the same login information as your incoming mail server in order to send email.

If you have done this and you are still encountering errors, it may be that your ISP is blocking our outgoing mail server port number as a security measure. In the advanced options of your email program, try changing the outgoing mail server port number from 587 (the default setting) to 465 (our alternative).

How do I setup email on my Android device?

To setup email on your Android device:

  1. Go to Menu > System Settings > Accounts, then select "Add account"


  2. Input your username (email address that you've set up) and password


  3. Select POP or IMAP, whichever you prefer


  4. Input the following information: Username (your email address), Password (for the email), Server (mail.megawire.com- where "domain.tld" is your domain)
    With IMAP:


    With POP:


  5. On the next screen, setup your outgoing (SMTP) mail server with the following information: Server (mail.megawire.com - where "domain.tld" is your domain), Port 587 (465 if your ISP blocks this port), Select "Require Sign-In", your Username (email address that you set up) and Password (for the email)


  6. You can now set your inbox checking frequency and name for the email account. You're done!
How do I change my hosted email password?

To change the password for a hosted email account:

  1. Log in to the Hosting OS for the hosted domain
  2. Select Email > Show Accounts
  3. Click "Options" on the desired account
  4. Enter, and confirm, the new password
